Perspectives of policy influencers on climate change education
Kate Greer’s PhD research examines policy influencers perspectives on climate change education in England. Her research, which began in 2017, has become increasingly topical amidst the recent global civil movement calling for ‘urgent’ changes to education, and ‘more’ climate change education. Kate’s work explores how policy influencers have come to shape climate change education in England, asking why some perspectives have come to influence policy development, and why some stakeholders have not seen their role as one of shaping climate change education.
During this seminar, Kate will share emerging insights regarding policy influencers perspectives on the purpose of education in the context of climate change, and the variety of views on what ‘climate change education’ is or should be. She will also highlight the discord that is emerging between some of the perspectives and the dominant model of education in England. The presentation will be followed by an informal discussion about climate change education in Sweden and England, and the challenges or opportunities that recent events present to practice, policy and research.
