As part of TekNat Faculty’s initiative on promoting Equal opportunities, TUR invites you to the literature seminar “Teaching for Equal Opportunities - Improved Learning for All”.

The book chapter, written by Catherine Sanger, outlines a series of concrete strategies to adapt your teaching to students’ different backgrounds and abilities, while at the same time improving learning for all students.

At the seminar we will discuss the following questions:
How do you accommodate students with different backgrounds and abilities?
Are there conflicts between being more inclusive and being time efficient?
Does being more inclusive always lead to improved learning for everyone?
What kind of help do teachers need to make their pedagogy more inclusive?

Abstract: For educators in diverse contexts, it is not only socially virtuous but also pedagogically valuable to proactively anticipate and incorporate students’ heterogeneous backgrounds, abilities, and interests into teaching and course design. This chapter highlights two educational frameworks—Inclusive Pedagogy and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)—that emphasize the educational importance of imbuing all students with a sense of belonging in the classroom and curriculum. Drawing from these approaches, the chapter suggests a series of concrete strategies for educators to enthusiastically harness diversity and amplify student learning.
