Title to be announced later

Dr. Frédéric Carrière has been invited as faculty opponent at the thesis defence of Oliver Hedge and will give a seminar related to his research.

Biography: Frédéric Carrière, PhD, is Research Director at Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and he currently works in the group of Enzymology of Supramolecular Systems at the Bioenergetics and Protein Engineering laboratory of CNRS and Aix Marseille University, Marseille, France. Over the last 30 years, his main research activities have been dealing with the biochemistry of lipids and lipolytic enzymes, with a strong interest in methods for studying lipid-protein interactions at interfaces and for lipolytic enzyme assays. Besides these molecular aspects based on protein engineering, biophysical methods and analytical chemistry, he investigated lipid digestion both in vitro and in vivo in the course of clinical studies. He has contributed to a better understanding of the relative contributions to lipid digestion of several enzymes, including gastric lipase, pancreatic lipase and pancreatic lipase-related protein 2. His studies have paid the way to the development of in vitro digestion methods, of lipase inhibitors for obesity treatment and of lipases for enzyme replacement therapy in patients with exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
He is the author of >200 publications. Among other duties, Frédéric Carrière has been Unit Director of the laboratory of Enzymology at Interfaces and Physiology of Lipolysis (CNRS, Aix-Marseille University) from 2004 to 2017, Scientific Director of the LISA Carnot Institute (Lipids for Health and Industry), a consortium of laboratories aiming at partnership with industry in the field of lipid science and technology, from 2009 to 2015. He was president of GERLI (Groupe d'Etude et de Recherche en Lipidomique, the lipid section of the French Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) from 2008 to 2014 and he is still a member of GERLI scientific board. Since 2007, he is a member of the Biologics Expert Committee at United States Pharmacopeia and Chair of the Pharmaceutical Enzyme Panel. Prior to join CNRS, he was employed as a researcher by the Jouveinal Laboratories (1988-1992; CIFRE contract) and Novo Nordisk A/S in Denmark (1992-1994). He was awarded the Chevreul medal in 2007 for his work on lipid science.
